Pastor Mark Helm & Kathy
Pastor Mark Helm & Kathy

Mark has been our pastor since July 2023, having answered the call to take “the helm” at our church. Providentially, he and his wife Kathy had just arrived in Boerne, Texas, re-settling from Indiana and planning to build a Hill Country home near their son. Although he had retired from his long-held pastorate in Indiana, Mark was hoping that a small rural church in Texas might need him. We did, and it’s been a great fit!

Mark holds a B.A. degree in Bible and Theology from Taylor University and a Master of Divinity degree from Anderson University. In addition to traditional pastoral duties through the years, Mark has served as a Bible teacher, walk-a-thon coordinator, evangelism training teacher, and associate principal of a church school. He has also hosted a church’s radio ministry, has been the associate producer of a Christian television program, has overseen the renovation and re-building of various church buildings, and guided his last church in Indiana through the disaffiliation process. Through it all, Kathy has been his greatest helper, and they raised two sons and a daughter, plus a number of foster and “second” children.

Mark is a former wrestler and wresting coach and is an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Kathy has a heart for children’s ministry and also works as a companion for the elderly and home-bound.

Our Staff

Kim Houy, Pianist

After raising 3 children, Kim and Dennis (her husband of 35+ years) are empty nesters residing in Fredericksburg, where she works for the City of Fredericksburg in the accounting department. Kim grew up in Fredericksburg and "studied" (more like practiced the night before lessons) piano for 12 years under Frances Ernst Gibson. She received her BBA in Business Management from Southwestern University in Georgetown, where she did spend one semester "studying" (more like played duets with) under Drusilla Huffmaster Anderson. She always swore she would never be a church musician, but when she subbed at Center Point Methodist Church, the warmth and graciousness of the congregation made her rethink that statement - she has been the full-time pianist since 2011.

Cheri Horning, Custodian

Cheri is a woman of many talents. She can bake delicate pastries, compile anthologies of phrases used in the Bible, and sew beautiful quilts as easily as she can wield a mop and broom! She is responsible for keeping our beautiful church clean and serviceable (sometimes a challenge with a 100-plus-year-old facility). Cheri is also an excellent Bible teacher and has been leading Bible studies at the church for many years. She lives in a house she designed and built in Center Point with her dog, Liz.
